Conditions seemed ideal for barbel - the river was running slightly coloured and at a nice pace. Despite trying many swims along the whole beat, we only had a chub and barbel to show for our efforts. But we'll be back! The W&UF paid a flying visit and it was nice to see them out and about walking the river. We stayed at the excellent Cottage of Content where we enjoyed a warm welcome and excellent hospitality, food and drink.

The river was low and clear and coming off the back of 3 frosts. Two barbel were caught by one angler on meat and the other blanked which is a shame as this beat has been very kind to us in the past.

Had a day fishing here for my birthday and what a beautiful spot. Unfortunately I took my dog and on walking around trying to find a likely spot he found and ate a old baited hooklink so I had to rush to vets for an operation. Please all anglers take all rubbish home with you. Dog is now recovering and I will be back just on my own this time.
WUF Note: We were very sorry to hear to hear about this and hope the dog's recovery is going well. We cannot stress enough the importance of anglers taking all litter and unused tackle home with them. This is the kind of distressing incident that occurs when they don't and, unfortunately, it isn't the first report of a dog swallowing a discarded tackle recently.

Turned up today with the temperature gauge on the car showing 0 degrees, so we knew we were in for a hard time, water level was down about 12 to 18 inches on the last time we fished here, so we decided to walk the stretch looking for deeper water, I think that if we found a pool that resembled an abyss it wouldn't of helped us today, the two of us never had a tap all day. The highlight was a salmon jumping (twice) and a kingfisher making a couple of appearances.
ps. Please heed the WUF's warning about the wooded area, it is quite treacherous in places !

First time on this beat using Czech nymphs and new setup - upstream, short casting, nylon rig only. No catch on this occasion, but will be returning soon.
P.S avoid wading in the area in front of the recording studio - took an unexpected plunge!

River running at .35m. Trout were aggressively taking everything that went near them often making it hard to get to the grayling (of which we landed 4 of a decent size up to 2lb), good news for the quality of the fishery of course. A surprise salmon of about 4lb took an age to land on a light tippet, returned of course, and looked like it had been in the river for a while. Another thoroughly enjoyable day on this beat that ended all too quickly.
