The morning overcast persisted but it grew steadily warmer and more humid as the day wore on. An amazing variety of birds were intent on picking off emerging upwings but the trout weren’t interested. Occasional movement subsurface seemed to be from smaller fish. I worked hard for my trout. I tried a variety of dries and emergers with little success. One fish rising in a shaded glide took a rusty Klinkhammer but the other five all came to small weighted nymphs. Best fish 8”.

Warm and mainly overcast. Fish rising regularly. 2 good condition brown trout caught and released, under 1/2 lb each. Fishing dry fly. Accommodation at Travellers Rest excellent as always, 1/2 mile from beat. The WUF continues to provide an efficient and easy to use service. Thanks.

11 to hand in the short time I was there, water very low with no flow so not ideal. 4 largest between 10-12 inches all the rest between 8-10, all took olive dun at the heads of the very shallow pools. Only one or two rises in the couple of hours I was there, plenty of fly on the water but with the sun beating down it put them down.

Took the opportunity of a couple of hours this afternoon and was rewarded with three trout and another hooked and lost. Considering that a fair few mayfly and other insects were around, very few fish rising. Two fish took dry mayfly and third an elk hair caddis. Stunning kingfisher kept me company and a superb show put on by a hare through the potato furrows. Very overgrown now....needs very careful footwork or you will end up in the river without meaning to!

This was my first non wild stream booking with WUF, and as novice I felt this beat was a little beyond my knowledge! Fished from 5pm to 9:30, warm sunny evening with little wind, a large fly hatch at about 8pm
Water looked a little coloured, but still good visibility. Tried streamer and indicator nymph in the larger pools but no takers. Had the grayling in fast water on the nymph, the chub and the trout took a black kinkhammer.
Missed lots on the dry and lost a good fish that took the dry as I stripped it in for re-cast, wasn't expecting a take so didn't set the hook! Overall found the beat hard and got stung so many times trying to get to the river.
Will probably return to this beat in grayling season when the nettles have died off.

Fished for about 3 1/2 hours on a mild sunny day. Not many flies about apart from gnats and only two fish seen rising. 9 trout caught, 6 on a beaded nymph and 3 on dry flies.
Fallen trees made access difficult on parts of the beat and the vegetation/overhanging branches made casting tricky as well.

A fine, at times very sunny day at Chainbridge with the river running clear at 0.59. No fish caught unfortunately. A 15 pounder jumped at the Chines at about 4pm but apart from thatthere was no sign of a fish. I tried the trout rod too but there was a curious lack of a hatch. A trickle of YMDs, Olives and the occasional mayfly came off but nothing substantial and not enough to trigger any serious rises. A good day to be on the river though and a very useful casting lesson from Chris Price too.
