Fabulous day on one of my favorite beats, weather warm and sunny but still managed 2 WBT in the morning to a Greenwells Glory, one about 1lb the other a little heavier. Lost a bigger fish (honest) to the same fly.
Grayling of a nice size, followed by two more WBT after lunch on a March Brown. All fish caught on the flats by the bridge and all returned. Fished 8.30am till 3pm
Many thanks yet again, Great day.

A beautiful day but tough angling. Over 10 hours we caught 5 rainbow trout up to 1.5lb and three brownies (of which the two smallest were returned). All on crank-baits and spinners.

Some lovely water. Only had a few hours in the morning. Had one of the top it was nice to see a few fish rising. The rest were on nymphs though. Quite a few takes on the bottom of this beat. Would have love to have had more time.

1st blank day of the season, conditions were good, however hardly saw any fly about and didn't see a single fish rise all day. Had a really good take around lunchtime on a nymph fished on a floating line, added to the frustration as it felt a good fish! Farmer has fenced off stile in front of farm to gain access to upper part of the beat - WHY??
One good point to take from a disappointing day was that I didn't see any canoeists!
Liked the beat, just think I caught it on the wrong day. Would like to return at a later date, hopefully when there's a good rise as there was some lovely looking dry fly water.

Fished the water above Abercanaid today. Plenty of fly life on the water i.e large dark olives brooks dunns and the odd march brown. Plenty of fish rising big and small and managed to catch fish up to 2 1/2lb

Arrived to a beautiful morning at 9 a.m. river 0.88m on the gauge and falling very slowly. Fished for almost 6 hrs with the 15 footer, very enjoyable exercise but again no sign of the needle in the haystack. A 1.5lb brownie raised the pulse briefly when it slammed into my Golden Killer and was safely returned.
A moderate hatch of LDOs occurred at intervals all day with just a smattering of March Browns. Inexplicably saw only two trout rise, but none to my offerings.
The heavy winter spates seems to have moved the stones of the river bed and I was able to wade Upper Rocks right down to the Chine. Below the bridge wadeable from the gauge right down to the cables with a small exception by the cleared tree stumps.

Nice trickle of LDO for the few hours I was on the beat but no fish seen rising. All four trout (4-10 inches) from the top third of the beat on Gold head hares ear in deeper pools and pots. 6ft rod too short for the weight of fly needed to get down to these fish!

We caught many very small fish which I haven't included as I would call them large fry at best but the strong downhill wind was more than a match for our 5 weight rods. When it relaxed to a breeze at times we could manage to present a fly and I really enjoyed walking all the beats. Some more salmon beats than trout, our chosen fish. But even though the river here is wide at times, there are a few lovely runs which look perfect grayling territory. And so it proved with a lovely fish of 3/4lb on a duster pattern on the top, which was wonderful after watching it for about 30 mins first feeding. I would imagine there are some serious trout here, but we left before dusk so would have missed the best fishing. And finally, a word of advice. If you would like lunch, the Boat Inn, serves a good pint and good food. However, if you plan on walking the bank in the afternoon, don't order the rump steak for God's Sake. Perfectly cooked to order, home butchered and beautiful but why anyone would want 20 oz plus of meat on a plate is beyond me. Salad next time...and there will be a next time. Good day for the purist.
