Great hatch over midday of fine sunny day - caught a fine 12 in brown on a small klinkhammer.

I took advantage of the sunshine and lower than recent river level to wet a line. Started at 4:30 pm and left at 6pm, having fished a few pools from the weir back to the bridge. Caught a nice brown mid way along on a gold head nymph fished duo. No other takes and no fish seen rising. Still a very pleasant hour or so which was better than not being there!

1 times Brown Trout 11 inches approx 1lb caught on a Ginger dry fly at 1320. There was a prolific hatch at 1300 and lasted for about 30 mins. Water conditions were very good and sporadic fly throughout the day.

1x Rainbow trout, 14" long, 1 1/2 lbs in weight, caught using spinner. Light wind, calm water, clear sky with mixed cloud, dry. Great day out, my son enjoyed his first fishing trip, we will return soon.

Used nymph then dry fly. Plenty of hatches, several rises but nothing landed. River a good height, weather warm and sunny. Flies used PTN and parachute Adams.

Weather was great and what a lovely location. Unfortunately my ability to catch fish was not so great. On my last visit (last year) I had a successful day, catching some good fish, but not so this time. Upon arrival there were plenty of fish rising just upstream of the bridge and this carried-on for a couple of hours. So, I set about presenting a wide variety of dry flies with absolutely no interest from the fish at all. This has happened to me before elsewhere (thankfully not very often) and I can't quite work out why: maybe they are taking just below the surface such that it appears as a surface take? (Anyone got a view?) I tried fishing sub-surface to no avail (I am not very good at this). Anyway, I ventured downstream into the pool immediately below the bridge and managed to get the interest of what must have been quite a substantial fish as it snatched at my Grey Wulff snapping the tippet in the process. So, had a lovely day but caught nothing and feel a little embarrassed as a consequence on what appeared to be a perfect day for fishing. I will be back though!

Fly - bright - river falling

A lovely first day out for the 2016 season, river looked good at 1' 5" but sorry to report no sign of a salmon. Good hatch of olives at lunch time and trout rising all over the tail of the Rectory pool for about an hour. Will be back soon.

River in perfect condition, lovely weather but no catch. Definitely I will try again!
