A very warm, sunny day with a light upstream breeze, little cloud cover. This is a really lovely stretch with plenty of variety and some gorgeous views.
On the water for 11am to find trout already rising to the hatch. A mixture of types seemed to be coming off but March Browns started appearing in abundance around 11:45 until, I'd guess, about 12:30. This definitely counts as the most prolific March Brown hatch I've ever seen and the sport was excellent, particularly in the rougher water where the rises were harder to spot but the speed of water meant less time to inspect my fly tying efforts. Took 3 on a large dark olive pattern and 5 on a grey wulff, ranging from 7-16 inches, all returned.
Although upwings kept trickling off all day, surface activity was pretty much done by 1300. After a long lunch I tried a large, weighted caddis pupa in the deeper channels and connected with something pretty powerful which took a lot of line and stayed deep for 3 or 4 mintues before a quick dash to the surface and a head shake which popped out the fly. Couldn't tell the size from the brief flash, but it made a good story that evening.

5 trout from about 30cm up to about 40cm taken on dry fly during a brief hatch of March Browns and LDO at lunchtime. Otherwise a bit quiet. The weather was hot an sunny and this probably limited activity a bit.

Very bright and very warm; and the river approaching gin-like levels of clarity. But the crucial limiting factor if I'm honest was my casting. No amount of practice and looking stylish in the park (enduring comments such as 'caught anything mate' - I invested hours in it!) evidently enough to manage a sinker line on the actual water. I switched to an intermediate but the water is still cold and there was a fair pace to the flow. Not surprising then that nothing came up to have a look. I'll stick to trout fishing until the grilse show up and I can fish a floater - early season salmon fishing is not for me.

Guiding the Young family. A short visit late afternoon. Apart from numerous out of season grayling on dries, just the one cock brown trout of 21 inches which took a Deer Hair Emerger. A few march browns still hatching.

Hazy and bright sun, v low and v clear. Fished left bank only; parked at east most spot. Olives coming off much of day, fish consistently rising just above small riffle at bottom of hill, didn't manage to get one on dry; 2 fish on nymphs further up beat returned.

First time on this river and what a stunning place to spend a few hours fishing. Fished from 11 til 3 in bright blue skies and warm sun. Lots of LDO's hatching from the off but nothing rising as I made my way upstream with a small nymph. No touches or any sign of a fish and I feared a blank was on the cards until just past the old bridge when the "rock" that I thought I'd snagged suddenly moved and jumped and shot of downstream! After a Few heart stopping moments a fine trout of 15/16 inches came to net and was safely returned. My best wild stream trout to date. Had to leave shortly after so didn't make it to the top of the beat but it didn't matter.
