Cold and windy day with no hatches or flys seen. River very clear. One very healthy 1lb brown trout landed on a small copper beaded hare's ear nymph fished deep just upstream of the road bridge. One other fish hooked but not landed on a PTN.
Two Cormorants and one Goosander spotted on the stretch throughout the day.

At 6 degrees C river was warmer than the 4 degree C air temperature. River a bit high for any wading but very pleased with thermals and neoprene for the little wading done. Very interesting beat well cared for, with taking spots at all heights well explained, by Mich. Looking forward for session later in season. If I were a salmon I think I would keep my head down deep or even stay in the sea at 8 degree C.

Cloudy cold 6C weather, cloudy grey green cold 40F water, 1'5" Fownhope gauge, falling very slowly. Fly fished Stones, Doghole, Gabions, Upper Lines, Maddox, Corner & Vanstone with 1.5" & 1.0" brass tubes on fast sinking lines. No touches or sightings of fish. Will be back when water warms up and is a little lower after next spate in April. A good beat.

First time at this part of the river and found access easy and also parking. A single lane gives you access to the river which I had no problem driving down. Being a stone surface at the turning point I was able to park and turn around my Citroen C3. The river was very clear and fairly high and you could see lots of deep runs. This was my first time using my waders so took it very easy. Cold dry day with no sun. Kept on moving up steam with very little action. Fishing with my own
tied Beaded Nymphs size 12 Polish/Black PTN on a floating line. Just below the Spout hooked into a beautiful fighting Grayling of just over a pound. Took the PTN on the dropper. First ever Grayling and boy did it fight. Netted fish and and carefully released. Fished for a further couple of hours back down steam with no luck. Excellent swim will return once weather improves.

Clear water running at an average height at just 4 degs. Hard frost meant it was pretty cool all day. No fish seen or caught, but a pleasure to return to this lovely stretch of water. Had a great day

To fish the beat without Mick would be like eating cheese without the biscuits, bread without the jam. A fabulous day, water a bit high and far too cold but expected a pull in every pool thanks to Micks guidance.Thank you again.
