Fresh 10lb hen taken on a red francis tube.

1 Salmon

Lovely day warm. Water running fast and a little high from what I remember from last visit 5 years ago. Caught 1 trout to talk about on klinkhammer. Access to water excellent with recent work. PS if anyone trips over a black metal wading staff near start of beat let me know. Lost in vegetation.

1 Trout

Casper Bowes caught a 6 lb and a 15lb salmon on fly on Thursday afternoon 15th May in the Aber pool.
Ben Woods aged 10, caught a cracking 16lb salmon on spinner in the top of the Aber pool on Friday evening (16th). His second and biggest salmon!

3 Salmon

Perfect water, warm but over cast most of the day. Not a salmon seen. Fished hard till 7pm. Looks like I left a 10lber for someone after me, gutted! Well done to them.
3 WBT of about 12" each, 1 chub about 2.5lb. I will get that Wye salmon one day!

3 Trout, 1 Chub

Massive amount of fly life, including Mays. Many fish missed but would only take if the fly was dropped on their noses. Maybe full of food and only snatching at easy offerings? Nevertheless a lovely afternoon.

No joy though.

Challenging wading, esp.ecially at this water height. Couldn't match the hatch at all!

2 Trout

Falling and clearing prospects looked good even on middle Wye, but of salmon, no sign as most must have rushed up to Spread Eagle (well done Nigel Smith for breaking the duck!). First signs of the shad running with 4 taken to the salmon fly to 3 lbs.

4 Other

Steady slow hatch starting early afternoon. Worked through the beat using emerger or dry as suited. 11 trout between 4 and 6 inches.

River healthy flowing and clear. 2lb brown off the surface on a black gnat, only fished for 2 hours at midday. But still a few rises whilst being sunny and warm. Fish Returned.
