Dry day with intermittent sunshine but a stiff downstream breeze. Steady stream of olives emerging and fish began to show in the afternoon. A drop in temperature in the afternoon shut down the activity for a while but it resumed in the evening. 4 fish on a bead head PTN during the lulls and 6 on an olive klinkhamer. All bright fish about 6 to 8oz. I believe that one fish was actually a salmon parr as the tail was deeply forked and the parr marks well defined?

Fantastic looking beat, gusty downstream wind sometimes made casting difficult but managed to catch seven trout up to 15 ins using dry fly and nymph, biggest on a dry fly, missed or lost just as many. Glad I had a wading stick.

No surface activity other than gnat! One 9 inch brown caught on beaded GRHE. Wild stream fishing day. Fished for four hours without sage words of advice so I left no more competent than I was when I arrived! I realise there was a lot of ground (or rather, water) to cover but maybe the expertise was spread a little too thinly?
Thank you WUF for a pleasant day out though.

Frustrating day. No fish caught despite constant rises but to what I had no idea. I tried everything but to no avail. Wading was difficult and with something of a wind blowing it made this one of the least satisfying days this year. No matter, I will be back.

A great day, despite difficult conditions. Not much rising, but took one or two on dryfly (Yellow May emerger, loopwing emerger). Most on klink and dink. Loads of takes, but hard to connect well, as I was fishing across the current. Biggest fish netted about 1.5lbs, but lost two of about 2lbs.
Saw off two poachers (spinning for trout) who became quite aggressive, and saw another man with an unassembled spinning rod.
WUF Note: Spinning for trout is prohibited on the Usk by law. Spinning for salmon is not permitted until 1st June so these poachers were fishing illegally - in these instances we request anglers call the NRW emergency line 0800 80 70 60 as soon as possible. If a poacher becomes aggressive when asked to leave, please call the police.

1'1 on the gauge, clear water. One disinterested fish showing in Lady Alexandra pool but no salmon caught. A fair few trout landed, all released. Thank you.

WILD STREAMS DAY
A well organised day by the Wye and Usk Foundation. Lovely coffee and biccies in the morning and even better chocolate biscuits with coffee and choccy cake in the afternoon. Well worth going for that alone.
Oh yes, the fishing..... not so good, only one trout but several rises spotted and a very good day. Bottom half of the beat had difficult access, but top half easy wading.
