Arrived at a chilly Edw beat, very coloured and relatively high due to a couple of days of heavy rain.
Many of the fish holding lies unfishable due to conditions. Not much hatching or rising but did manage 8 wbt - 5" - 9" using flies chosen for their visibility more than anything else.
Given the intimidating height of both the Usk and Wye from recent rain this was a relatively productive option.

Wet and windy day with choppy waters. Fished from bank/wading a short way out and fishing in wind lanes. Fly only (various). 6 Rainbows banked 1.5lb plus. Various sized brown trout returned. Shame to see worm fishermen hogging the top end of the reservoir.

This was my first visit to this beat & although there's not much fast water it's a nice easy place to fish. I didn't get any interest in my nymphs but hooked 1 rising trout on a march brown. I suspect because of the slow deep water this is probably a summer evening venue.

On a bright but relatively warm day I started fishing a team of nymphs in the deeper riffles, landing seven wbt to 10 inches. At lunch time I switched to the dry and landed two lovely trout of 1lb and 1 3/4lbs. I also moved a much bigger fish in the quarry pool. There were plenty of sporadic rises throughout the afternoon but I found conditions tricky with low, clear water and only a light hatch of fly to interest the fish.

Fished the river from Abercarn up. At the start there was not much ativity on the water so opted for klinkhammer and dink And managed a couple of small trout and salmon smolt. Later on in the day around 2nd a good hatch of ldo's and brook dunns were on the water with fish rising in a feeding frenzy. Managed to catch a couple more decent fish with the biggest being 23". The river is in a right mess at the moment due to low levels and idiots not taking their rubbish home with them. But what do you expect from an urban river??? As for tips for fishing the Taf Farw and Taf Fechan... I would use a single klinkhammer on a 7 ft 3# rod fished up stream keeping very low whilst fishing pocket water being big boulders etc. Remember these are the wildest fish and you only get one chance with them. Please email myself if you need any more information on daniel.1986@live.co.uk.

Was hoping to find a bigger river but not to be. No fish seen.
But at present, it's all about learning and I did that, a lot more confident with a Salmon Rod after a long day. Walked both banks and fished Upper Llanstephen, so crawled to the car, my bad knee screaming at me!

A lovely day to choose to go fishing; after the deluge and before the gales! I'm rarely as lucky as this. The beat looked ravishing and there were flies to behold. False March Browns, I think. But the trout weren't interested and few rises were seen during the day. But prospecting with a large dry fly produced results and 3 small trout were caught. The large Ephemeroptera disappeared by mid day and I put on a nymph and caught another 3 trout from streamier sections of the river. In the afternoon I found 2 fish rising in a slow glide, managed to rise them both to a small dry fly and of course, pricked one and failed to hook the other.
Red kites, swallows, martins, wagtails and dippers added to a delightful day.

Lovely day's fishing - weather cloudy with quite long sunny intervals, fish rising fairly intermittently along the beat and often tempted by small F fly if well presented, otherwise taking GRHE cast upstream into promising currents. 4 brownies caught and returned, up to 1lb and in excellent condition - numerous missed takes! A classic stretch of water, and a pint at the Bell to finish.
