Fished from 7am - 3pm. Beautiful day and river conditions very good. Lots of different pegs in well kept condition with easy access. Looking for barbel I used a closed end cage feeder with hemp and halibut mix with double hair rigged halibut pellet. I fished Boys Rocks and bagged 5 barbel all between 8 and 10lb, 1 chub 3lbs and what I believe to be a 2lb grilse? Lost 3/4 as well but all in all a good day. If your going fish here make sure you fish the middle to far side of the river as it is a bit rocky close in and will cost you a few quid in tackle. Looking forward to my next outing! Cheers to WUF Approved Guide Adam fisher for the info!

WUF note: This 2lbs grilse may well have been a shad. Worth a double check.

Fished two 3 hour sessions - early morning and late afternoon for an excellent day's fishing. All fish to feeder tactics using pellets and boilies with the barbel going to 8lb and four of the chub over 5lb. First time on this small beat and whilst swims are limited they are easy to fish with the water at it's current level. Many thanks for a good days fishing, good venue, information and service.

Tough. Hot and sunny, large reservoir. Tried all tactics to no avail. Nothing happening all day and most of the evening. We had lost the will to live by 8pm, knowing we were likely leaving an hour or two too early.

Evening session 7-10. Early fish on small tungsten hairs ear nymph. Fish started rising but I think smutting. Couldn't get them consistently interested in my tiny flies but a few splashy rises to small Wulff and later to spinners. Trout 9-11 inches in excellent condition and OOS grayling 9-12inches. Beautiful still evening.

First time fishing this beat. Caught a couple of barbel and chub from the bottom swim in the morning. After a pub lunch felt lazy so set up in top swim and had a nap on the bank. Don woke me from my slumber and probably saved me from burning in the sun. Thanks Don! Following his advice, I returned to the bottom swim and enjoyed a very successful afternoon - All in all 17 chub to about 3lb and 13 Barbel to 7lb 6oz, all caught on feeder and pellet. Will definitely be back! Lost a couple of bigger barbel to a hook pull and rocks. Unfinished business - will definitely be back!

Phew Scorchio! Blazing sunshine tempered by the odd cloud, a hot a sultry morning. Fished the section adjacent to the woods with Klink and a nymph, caught one tiddler. Fished it again with a dry, the odd snatch but nothing serious. Plenty of Yellow May Duns coming off the water but as usual, trout express little interest. Retired to the Bell for a cooling pint. Went home, returned at 7pm, got soaked in a very heavy shower. Half hearted evening rise at 9:30pm although hatch was fairly vigorous. Caught another 3 very small fish, less than 8oz.

This was my first visit to the Wye and it won't be my last. The White House stretch is in a beautiful setting and provides a variety of swim types - from shallow glides to deeper runs and holes. Although we enjoyed moderate success, it was a blazing hot day with full sun most of the time. The fish seemed to feed better at both ends of the day and when the sun was less bright. We stayed at the White Lion in Ross which was ideal - very friendly and comfortable and run and frequented by anglers. Booking the tickets from the Wye & Usk Foundation was very straightforward and the staff were extremely helpful.

A nice beat but no barbel caught, lots of Chub and an eel. It was a bit of a mission to get over the hill but nice views for those brave enough for the climb.
