My third attempt at fly fishing...arrived to find the river looking ideal, a good flow and a tinge of colour. Travelled though fog and there was still a frost on the fields, but the sun was shining.
Feel like I fished quite well, saw a few March Browns leaving the surface and even did a reasonable job of "matching the hatch" but by lunchtime I was fishless.
After lunch I walked back to a place I fancied in the morning and to my delight saw fish taking flies off the surface in a slack behind a fallen tree. My novice like casting let me down however and I was unable to present a fly to them and my attempts probably spooked the fish as I didn't see anymore activity.
I lovely spring day on a great stretch of river but I'm still to catch on the fly...maybe next time.

A nice day, weak sunshine, water had touch of colour but still able to see bottom near bank, no fish rises all day [11 am--3.30 pm] no fly rises although the occasional olive 5-6 throughout the day. No fish caught, was fishing up stream nymphs of various sorts. Will visit the beat again so very fishy looking!!!

Cold - fish perhaps in a hypothermic stupor or just stunned by my fumblings on first seasons expedition...either way did not trouble my net. Very brief meagre hatch of march browns when sun came out, couple of rises but was over no sooner i had tied on a dry. Couple of pulls on nymphs but got off. Lovely stretch of water ... good mix of water...will come back.

First time this season, good day out and great fishing. Had 3 on an orange spinner and 5 off bottom very little rising for surface food.

A terrific day, on a splendid beat, again. We took fish throughout the beat, all around 1lb. and all in good condition.Very small weighted nymph patterns proved most successful - we saw sparse hatches late morning, but not enough to prompt a go with dries.
Water was cold and clear and whilst wading was straightforward, there are some stretches where the water really pushes through.

A really good day. Sporadic hatches of LDOs and the odd flurry of March Browns. Fish rising very enthusiastically during hatches so catching on a dry fly (jingler) was easy. The size of fish caught was staggering. 3 fish of 1lb 13oz and one just over 2lb. Two more similar sized fish hooked and lost. Two otters busy fishing at the bottom of the beat, apparently unconcerned by my presence. 4 goosanders and one cormorant.
Pen y Fan covered in snow but weather was reasonably warm with little wind and some sun. Hatches were right on cue. Started at 11am and came to a full stop at 2.30pm.

Arrived early to beat 2 and fished hard till lunch time. The water was perfect for the fly but no salmon seen. Two nice trout fell to a 2 inch posh tosh. In the afternoon I moved downstream to beats 5 and 6 where I fished for a few hours but with no fish caught. I met Terry at midday - as always he was very helpful showing me the good places. A nice day out.

Nice bit of water, quite a long beat. Fish moved to LDO, hatch started at 11:04 and ended at 14:35ish. Lots of fish moving in some of the bigger slower pools. Weather was warm (9 to 10 c) and the wind (north east) did not get up. Would definitely fish here again. fish rose to small cdc emergers.

A lovely early spring day with large dark olives, march browns, red kites and daffodils. Acquaintance made with three charming brown trout of 15", 12" and a fine 18". A great way to start the season. Some while since I last fished Glanusk. It's a pity about the increasing urbanisation: sign posts, rubber safety rings etc!!
