Fishing in the afternoon the upper part of the beat. The water level was a little high and a little dark. Strong wind, no surface activity. We try with nymphs. No rising fish. The river seemed dead.

The river was very low and clear so we decided to fish the lower field opposite the house. Not much interest from the fish until the sun was off the water and we had a couple of Barbel to 9.5 pounds and a Chub. All caught on pellet. Sugwas is a lovely beat and we thoroughly enjoyed our day. It would fish much better with a bit more water on it.

Lovely day, several salmon seen jumping. Two very close by in the Vanstone pool. None caught though. Reasonable number of canoeists but they didn't cause any issues and were all polite. Banks very overgrown towards the top of the beat, not a major issue though.

Third time trout fishing and caught 3 on worm, nothing on spinner. Now I am inspired to try fly fishing.

River running clear and really good height for trouting. Nymphed most of the session resulting in 10 wbt and 1 pretty grayling. All fish 6" to 10" in great condition and all returned. Tried to tempt the odd rising fish to a dry for the last hour but nothing doing. Great default beat when water levels patchy.

Lots of chub taken on light waggler gear, biggest 4lb 14oz, several over 3lb. Dace and bleak also. Dad tried for the barbel, four landed, all about 8lb and one chub of 5lb 1oz. Great day!

What a great stretch of wild fishing! Some rain then bright sunshine made for a constant change in the stream. Nymphs worked all morning for wild fish to 8 inches with 3 to 12 inches. Nothing bigger seen. In the afternoon a few fish were rising to the dry (small Adams) with great sport on light tackle. Really enjoyed the peace and quiet of this stretch.

A cool and damp day with the river low and clear. Some nice fish made the day worthwhile.
