Arrived at entrance to beat 2 (left bank) by old pump house, only to find bank access extremely limited by dense trees, bushes and very high, sheer banks. This really needs some work done in order to improve access. We crossed the toll bridge to the right bank where access is much better. Bull in field here with cattle but he was no trouble. River was in perfect condition but sadly our visit coincided with the hottest day of the year. The only salmon we saw were when four of them were disturbed by passing canoes. Didn't contact anything until evening when we caught and returned a trout each.
WUF note: The keeper would like to inform anglers that the left bank from the pump house is indeed precipitous and the trees are established and well looked after. The pump house pathway upstream and downstream are maintained and afford good access to the pools on the beat. Wading is essential to fly fish this beat and it is popular with most of the visiting anglers and syndicate members alike. The entire right bank is open grazing throughout the year and the banks are thus very clear and accessible. There is good gravel on the banks and wading again is good. Coarse and game anglers favour this beat because of the easy access.

Brown trout (9") on mayfly CDC emerger. River still significantly coloured (as predicted in earlier telephone conversation). Sporadic mayfly and other upwings in evidence but not much in the way of an evening rise.

This is a great beat and very long however there are sections with difficult (impossible) access due to high banks and thick vegetation.
Really sunny day and water level was fairly low but there was still plenty of variety to fish and experiemnet with different techniques. Saw fish about but not many and noticed signs of otter activity.
Managed to tempt a WBT of well over a 1lb within 10 minutes of arriving. Promising start, however that was it for 4 hours. Managed another much smaller trout and a good grayling in the afternoon. No serious afternoon rise unfortunately but much fly-life in the evening with the fishing rising nicely. Problem was the vast variety of flies and I just couldn't match the hatch. Great day though and Charlie, the owner, was very welcoming.

River a perfect height (1' 8" Llanstephan), allowing access to all areas of the beat without those heart-in-mouth wading moments. Warm and bright, precious little fly life or rises until about 7.30pm when fish started to show for about half an hour.
16 wbt to about 12" and 2 out of season grayling, all but two to nymphs. All returned.
2 or 3 very large salmon in the pool up steam from the parking area gave a resounding aerial display late afternoon.
Very good beat if you wish to fish as a group, plenty of room for 4 or 5 rods and a nice terrace for lunch.

The day promised much - warm and bright with the river looking super and continuing to drop. But no-one told the trout - where were they all? We saw much more salmon activity then trout - 3 grilse & 3 bigger fish - but not organised for them today. Little insect life - a few yellow may duns, medium olives and a couple of mayflies and we struggled. 2 nice wbt 9 + 12 inches on para dries but most rises were oncers. Never mind - we will be back!
