Fishing:Winter Grayling

No. of Anglers:1

Good river level with strong flow, slight peat stain. Dull windless day. Good hatch about 1pm, Needle flies and Sedge. Rising fish choosy. Managed 4 grayling and 1 trout 1/2 lb. Best grayling 2lbs. This fish had a Small Gold Head Nymph size 16/18 attached to a few iches of line. All fish returned. I had to hold the fish in the current for at least ten minutes before it recovered. Lots of leaves to come down soon! I would be interested to know how long ago that grayling had been hooked.

Nil Caught. Last time I believe to the weather forcast! They said rain morning sun by 3pm therefore aimed to get there for 11.30am. Unavoidable delays meant arriving in reasonably good weather at 1pm, thought thats ok fish till 7pm. Heavy Rain from 3.30pm gave up 4.30 Dark, Rain stair rods, Drenched! Still enjoyed the bit of fishing I got, maybe next year.

A difficult day, the river was low and clear. The rain over the recent past had made the banks somewhat slippery and difficult to traverse. Don was very helpful and I fished the lower beat towards the Ferry Pool and caught 5 barbel to 7 lbs 6 oz on halibut pellet over hemp and halibut groundbait.

One salmon taken at Llanstephan - 6 lb grilse returned in good condition on a size 6 ally's shrimp from Dolmeudwy pool. Fishing there rather than Ty-Newydd thanks to Stephen M-S, but I did lose two at Ty-Newydd earlier, idiot that I am!
Many thanks for being so helpful

A tough day despite good conditions. A single barbel of 8.5lb caught. The banks were treacherous and dangerous in places. Good advice from Don Macer-Wright re locations. In drier bank conditions fishing would no doubt be more pleasurable.

Only small dace caught trotting, couldn't find the chub. Lovely trotting water though. Put the pike rod into a couple of likely looking lies but not a sniff - probably need a few frosts and felt I should have been throwing lures for them so early in the season. Switched to barbel for the last hour having seen a couple roll - caught 7 to 8-15. Lovely autumn day to be by the waterside, especially at this location, it really is a cracking stretch of river.
