In the first pools fished with heavy nymph. Used lighter nymphs on higher and less deep pools. Switched to dry fly when saw fish starting to rise, which was some time after half past two. The fish were mostly between 20 cms and 26-27 cms. I also caught one salmon parr.
I last fished Clettwr in Sept 20. The great difference this time were the number of tree trunks across pools. I counted about 12 or more over one particular pool! It needs to be cleared. There was a certain amount of rubbish lying around and I filled my fishing bag with as much as I could carry. Would it be an idea to urge all anglers to take a bag with them and collect some rubbish as their small contribution to keeping rivers clean?
Another important point is that I did not detect any sign marking the beat end and I don't know whether I strayed beyond it or not. I know that Felindre farm is marked on the map but I for one could not make it out.
Would it be possible in future to have the beat end clearly marked?

River slightly high and coloured with downstream wind but lovely beat with occasional hatches. Fish caught on a mixture of dry flies and gold heads with largest fish over 2lbs in good condition. Access from the bank difficult in places and depth made it difficult to wade to some parts.

River was in great condition, if a touch murky. Very little movement on the surface although any rises seen also went for flies (klinkhammers, midges, mayflys) but nothing stayed on, it seemed as though they were slapping the flies. I caught two nice WBT of 10-12 inches on Prince nymph fished Czech style and two others (8-10 inches) by the same method. At the bottom end of the beat there were a few fish moving and although I managed to get them all to rise to the fly, I only managed to hook one - on a Mayfly. Altogether a very enjoyable afternoon of fishing and will certainly look to return if in the area again.

Fished the main river all afternoon no fish seen or caught however water was low and didn't stay late enough for possible evening rise. Nice peaceful beat.

Quite a few fish rising, esp. in the lower half of the beat. The water is very cold after the snow melt of the previous week and we found the fish quite lethargic. Poplar pool provided a good trout of 1.5 lbs on a sz. 18 nymph, and also a smaller fish from Pwllygwaith. A most enjoyable day.
