Beat:Ty-Newydd (upper Wye)

Fishing:All Species (in season)

Fished from 09.00 till 13.00 in windy conditions. Plenty of fish rising and lots of flies hatching but only managed to hook 1 smallish grayling who wriggled off as my net approached.

Beat:Caradoc (R. Wye)

Fishing:All Species (in season)

Lovely stretch of water bumped into the Gillie Gerry lewis who was very helpful and walked the river with us and showed us the best swims. We finally settled on a deep hole under a large tree which provided shade. The dreaded weed caused problems again and was considering packing up early. However about 1pm the river level dropped about 10ins and weed was less of a problem. I caught 1 Chub 2.5lb & 5 Barbel 4.5lb, 1.5lb, 1lb, 8lb and 6lb. All by 5.30pm.

Beat:Wyebank & Courtfield (lower Wye)

Fishing:All Species (in season)

A lovely day out with the Wye running nice and clear. I didn't catch any salmon although I did experience a few snatches on an old brown and gold Devon Minnow at the tail end of the beat, just below the Wyebank Pool.

Caradoc 28th August 2009 Caradoc : Lovely stretch of water bumped into the Gillie Gerry Lewis who was very helpful and walked the river with us and showed us the best swims. We finally settled on a deep hole under a large tree which provided shade. The dreaded weed caused problems again and was considering packing up early. However about 1pm the river level dropped about 10ins and weed was less of a problem.I caught1 Chub 2.5lb,& 5 Barbel 4.5lb,1.5lb,1lb,8lb and 6lb. All by 5.30pm.

Whitehouse 26th Aug 2009 : We fished at the first swim just to the right of the hut.Not so much weed today.Fish caught mainly on Halibut pellet except for one small Barbel which was caught on a 8mm Crab pellet.Barbel of 2lb,5.4oz,6.5lb Nice stretch of water.

Backney 25th Aug 2009 : We fished on Crib 1&2 the river was low and clear here again the weed coming down the river made fishing in the main flow impossible and we were reduced to fishing in slack water below the crib, which was dissapointing a Chub of about 2lbs was hooked though but lost at the net!

Luggs Mouth & Lower Carrots 24th Aug 2009 : We fished from 10am to about 6pm (not the best time i know!) However neither of us could get a bite!A lot of weed was coming down the river making bite detection difficult, along with being a bright sunny day and very clear water. Maybe that was the problem? Lovely stretch of water though.

Beat:Llyn Bugeilyn

Fishing:All Species (in season)

Unfortunately weather was not kind as wind was very strong and variable. We attempted to move to opposite side of the lake but rough ground and peat bogs nearly defeated us - it probably took us one and a half hours to reach the SE corner from the west bank by which time the wind had changed and we called it a day soon after! In all we probably fished for a total of an hour in which time I caught four pretty brownies to 10" and my brother in law (novice) managed to lose one! On another day it could have been delightful, though a boat is required for access.

Beat:Salmon Fishing on the Middle Wye

Fishing:All Species (in season)

Fished Holme Lacy & Middle Hill Court. Three rods. No fish caught. Brilliantly well looked after by Colin on Holme Lacey but didn't see a fish move. Odd fish moving at Middle Hill Court on Wednesday - lovely fly water but spoilt by very limited access to pools. Couldn't penetrate jungle on bottom half of beat at all....what a shame.
