Blank for salmon. A stiffish upstream breeze when starting soon turned into a proper gale which seemed to be coming from three directions at once, none of them the right one. My casting went all to pot. The shad have turned up though, as others have noted, and a pair of large females banged into the fly. Despite the cold spring, they are right on time.

Another very cold day, with a ferocious downstream wind. First time on this beat, and very promising it was. Apart from the relentless wind, which made casting difficult, the only other challenge was getting up and down the steep muddy banks. Wading otherwise straightforward. To the fishing: all caught in streamy water, all to the nymph. Best just over a 1lb. Couple lost to a klinkhammer. Steady hatch most of the day of olives and midge. A number of fish rising but very hard to cover given the wind.

At about 20.00hrs a small but very active salmon of less than 10lbs caught on a small pink/silver flying C with one ounce extra weight 18 inches up line to hold deep. Caught 20yds below little willow and hooked midstream. Released off the single barbless hook in the water and fish swam away fast.

Saw fish show in Windmill and Maddox but did not
connect with anything. Finished early because of
the strength of the wind.

Not even a bite, the river was quite low, try all sorts of different flies. Beautiful place and thoroughly enjoyable day.

No sign of fish. Top half of beat needs paths cutting through bankside vegetation for better access.

First time for me at this beat. Good flow to the river but conditions very difficult (cold and windy) still managed 5 fish to dries (klinkhammers), one to pt nymph. Rising fish in pockets with a late afternoon hatch. Approx fish size 1 x 14-15 oz, 3 x 8-10oz 2x 4-6oz. Good fun so will be back again hopefully in more favourable conditions. Some good fish rising in some unreachable parts of the beat.

23rd and 24th May 2013, 2 rods. We fished 4/5 hrs both days, morning, afternoon and evening. Marginal weather, very windy and bright sunshine followed by heavy showers on both days. River level normal but a little coloured. Despite the perfect setting we caught no fish, we saw only 3 fish jump over the two days and no rises were seen. Otter tracks over the whole length of the beat gave us our excuses. We saw no fry in the margins except for one fish about 1 inch long. Methods used, up stream and down stream nymph fishing with various gold head and hares ear nymphs on the point with a wet black gnat on the dropper.
