Great fun fishing despite low water. Only I fished and for 4 hours in the morning, then 3 hours in the evening. Very hectic sport. Barbel were all 4-6 lbs and chub 2-4 lbs. All fish were in great condition and I was also encouraged to see a few days before I fished a couple of dozen small barbel by the bridge (amongst many chub). The barbel were all a few ozs up to about 2 lbs so bodes well for the future.

Having struggled to catch many fish while the water is low, decided to start after lunch and fish into the evening. Lots of canoes and swimmers so not much expected until things calmed down. Needn't have bothered - blanked. Lovely stretch, though, so likely to be back when there's more water on.

Only 4 fishable pegs along the entire beat. Most of the bank unkempt and inaccessible. Water quality poor - thick silk weed covering the entire river bottom. No noticeable flow and river very low. Parking area unmanaged and very overgrown. No fish caught.

Trotted meat for a few hours into dusk - no sign of any fish (no bites or fish activity observed).

Very low water and a lot of algae to contend with (even in the clearer runs, every cast came back with algae/weed on the line). Slack areas had several inches of it on the river bed. Waders pretty much essential when the river is at this level to access fishable areas. Steep banks for the most part which is fine in the dry, though if the ground was wet I’d want to have a spike and a rope with me. Either way, best avoided for those with limited mobility. Would like to return in Autumn when the level is up and weed has died off.

Very slow section with blanket weed right across the river bottom that you can't see from the bank. That's all bar the very bottom end. Problem with there though is that it's opposite Lydbrook beach (Bournemouth beach at this time of year but in Lydbrook) and the open channel is the only accessible bit for the canoes. Once these cleared I had 4 little barbel ( 1 - 4lb) on GB feeder and pellet or meat.
