1 10" WBT that took a 5" Flashtail Clouser, 2/0 hook, intended for pike. (Cleanly hooked inside the mouth.) So much for delicate dries and micro-nymphs:)

Had the beat to myself but spent whole day lounging in gloriously sunny Legg Meadow, totally untroubled by any registration of interest from barbel or chub. A foggy start, burned off by a sun blazing in a cloudless sky was NOT forecast and seemed not to be appreciated by the fish. They didn't switch on until the sun switched off, leaving only enough time to hook a couple of barbel (one landed, 7lb). Then I fluked a big fish which tried to pull in a feeder rod "parked" down the near margin, while I packed away the main rod and tidied the bait boxes. It was still carrying two halibut pellets which had been on the hair rig for two hours and looked very anaemic. After a doughty battle it took the scales to 11lb 1oz, equalling a Wye PB. Like to think I deserved the biggie, for persevering, but maybe not! Anyway I'm counting it, as part of another memorable Wye day. Courtfield stretch very attractive, with ample swims to investigate.

We were fortunate to be fishing the wonderful Wye on such a beautiful day. For February the weather was exceptional with warm sunshine and little wind and as we had a number of chub and barbel on pellet from various swims, we finished feeling very contented. It was also great to chat to Colin who was, as usual, cheerful and very helpful. Good luck for the coming Salmon season.

Fished from 9.30 on both banks in light breeze with misty conditions with little visibility, but very mild conditions. No luck with fly rod and another fisherman on fly was banking also. Fish were caught on small mepps comet spinner. Caught bag limit of six rainbows ranging from 3lb to 1.5 lbs. All fish in very good condition.
Bankside foot traffic marks indicated that the venue had been busy over the weekend, as also regretably did the amount of litter which had very recently been left on the banks. A more responsible attitude is required.

A couple of decent barbel caught and a couple lost. Very pleased given the time of year. Next trip will be in June. I hope to have as good a season this year as I did last!

Monday 27th: Our first visit to this fishery so concentrated on upper section on first day, tried various likely spots but no action (weather mild, river conditions still pushing but dropping and relatively clear).
Tue 28th: Moved to Rope Pool area which looked more likely to produce and had two Barbel, one around 6lb another around 7lb mark (not weighed) and a chub of around 4lb (weather very mild, river conditions as previous).
Wed 29th: Returned to the rope pool area and had another two Barbel both around the 7lb mark and two chub one around 3lb and another at 4lb 6oz (weighed). Weather and river conditions as before.
A wonderful spot in the shadow of Goodrich Castle.

Not a single bite all day, but a nice location, did see some nice chub taking floating bread. It's one hell of a walk to the bottom of the beat, I think this needs to be highlighted to potential anglers before booking.

WUF note - The length of walk to the limits of the beat are equal to the length of the beat - this applies to all fisheries.

River very low and clear which provided a convenient excuse for our complete lack of any fish today.
