River running low and clear, lots of sherry spinner over the water and some olives coming off during the day. No mayfly though. A few fish rising here and there. Fished a parachute adams which always does a good job!
If Pedro reads this I didn't catch any fish where we spoke to each other and was good to see you had a good day!

Glorious weather at last, my first time on this beat. Started on a nymph and pulled out of a couple of trout in the first half hour, along by the caravan site. Plenty of fly life including Iron Blues and even a couple of Mayflies (the first I've seen this year). Finished the day having caught three wbt, largest 8 inches, all on a Greenwell's Glory. A very enjoyable day on a beat worth returning to.

What a pleasant stretch of the Usk with good accesiblity. Weather was very favourable with some good hatches, but the fish were not too obliging even though we tried a variety of dry and wet flies.

Nothing to report except phone in bottom of roaring rocks, bloody cold, exceptionally windy, needed more sandwiches and the marquee in the ti-pi adventure site blew away.
Peregrine hawking on the lower red bank pool keeping Magpies alert, Sprayed 10 litres of chemical on hogweeds, I couldn't leave them un-molested as on site and did whole of carrots beat at same time. 1.5lb brownie caught on a 3" flame thrower. SM makes a good coffee but he didn't offer me any sustenance!

Blank for salmon. A stiffish upstream breeze when starting soon turned into a proper gale which seemed to be coming from three directions at once, none of them the right one. My casting went all to pot. The shad have turned up though, as others have noted, and a pair of large females banged into the fly. Despite the cold spring, they are right on time.

Area:Usk
Beat:Ashford House
Fishing:Trout (River)

Another very cold day, with a ferocious downstream wind. First time on this beat, and very promising it was. Apart from the relentless wind, which made casting difficult, the only other challenge was getting up and down the steep muddy banks. Wading otherwise straightforward. To the fishing: all caught in streamy water, all to the nymph. Best just over a 1lb. Couple lost to a klinkhammer. Steady hatch most of the day of olives and midge. A number of fish rising but very hard to cover given the wind.

At about 20.00hrs a small but very active salmon of less than 10lbs caught on a small pink/silver flying C with one ounce extra weight 18 inches up line to hold deep. Caught 20yds below little willow and hooked midstream. Released off the single barbless hook in the water and fish swam away fast.

10 wbt to 1lb all caught on nymphs also one grayling at around 1lb. This was a very windy day I was nearly blown into the water off the rocks into a deep pool (scary!!).despite the strong downstream winds there were plenty of good fish to be had . The wading is tricky at times and we would recommend if your fishing this beat then leave your hip flask at home! We would all fish this stretch again it was fab!

Saw fish show in Windmill and Maddox but did not
connect with anything. Finished early because of
the strength of the wind.
