Arrived at first light, river still very low and clear, the rain from the previous day didn't affect the river conditions as anticipated. Excellent video & map directions, fished two locations.
Top section:
Fished the Fire Pit-Swim, not a lot else to choose from? Fished a 14mm halibut pellet over fishmeal & hemp through a ground-bait feeder, loose-fed 5mm halibut pellets. First bite came in the first hour after first light, lovely pristine 8lb Barbel, unfortunately the next hour was bite less, very quiet after that, so i decided to move to the bottom section.
Bottom section:
Again with limited swim choice, I fished the 1st swim by the car-park under the big oak tree, Fished ledgered meat, occasionally changing to glugged boilie through a ground-bait feeder. Very shallow, possibly only 18" of water in front of me, and very snaggy to my left in the middle, lost a lots of terminal tackle inc swim feeders and leads. Very slow throughout the day picking up the odd chub to 4lbs, and the "other" being a 2lb eel, went quiet at 1pm, so I reluctantly decided on an early finish. Canoe traffic was steady throughout the day, all very courteous and avoided my line where possible.
I will return after some well earned rain, it needs a good flush through.
Thanks WUF and the land owners for allowing us access to a great river and all the nature it provides.

Back to the changing, changeless river ...
While nothing to compare with what the Open golfers had to contend with at Troon on Saturday, the rain had put a hint of colour in the water, and the river probably fished better for it. Steady progress throughout the day, with most of my fish on weighted nymphs. With the cottage not occupied, I was able to fish that section, and had a few fish - although, surprisingly, nothing from that oh so enticing pool immediately in front of the cottage

No trout caught but a great day on a stunning part of the usk. Fished the upper beat. Drizzly day. Seen lots of WBT cruising but not feeding. Tried dries and nymphs but nothing taking. Passed again on way back from the cider mill about 8.30pm and lots of rising fish. Will try later in the day next time. Definitely will pay a visit before season ends in September.

Fished the evening after a day of drizzle and rain.
Stunning beat, flanked by ancient oak trees and mossy banks.
Wading is challenging, mainly bedrock and some deep fast pools, be extremely careful, take a wading stick.
Had five fish, nothing big, lost another four. Klink, PTN etc... Saw a salmon, or a large trout leap and the tail of Quarry pool.
Fished until dark, but didn't make it to the top of the beat.
The perfect beat if you like it challenging and wild. Probably the most unspoiled fishing I have had in the UK.
5 Trout
