River very low, fishing very slow, Barbel no show. Despite all our efforts only 2 violent takes resulting in 2 hooklink breaks leaving 2 frustrated anglers. Both takes on sweetcorn in the faster water towards the bottom end of the beat.

Heavy early morning rain cleared away to leave a bright, probably a little too bright, sunny afternoon. Fished from 11.30 to 5, the river was clean and healthy looking, although low it was still possible to find some deep water. The margins were full of fry and dragon flies were in profusion, no other fly life was seen and I saw no rises all day. Fished beaded nymphs, all the usual varieties, in all the likely looking places but didn't get a touch. A beautiful afternoon spent on a nice stretch of river, shame about no fish. Best bit of the day, a kingfisher.
