1 mile of double bank river Lugg trout fishing a few miles upstream of Aymestrey. This part of the river meanders through a wonderfully tranquil, steep-sided valley and is a stretch of river that retains a very ‘private’ feel. Ideal for one or two anglers looking to escape for a quiet day’s fishing for trout and grayling. With a gravel and silt riverbed, wading, when permitted, is relatively easy on this small to medium sized river. There is a private holiday cottage next to the beat that retains the right to fish 1 rod and have use for river activities, particularly during the summer months. On these occasions, fishing may be curtailed to certain areas. Some access improvements have been carried out in Spring 2024, including a footbridge.
Please note there is a chance that there could be dairy cows with a bull in one of the fields. Caution is advised around livestock at all times, especially with dogs.
NO WADING IS PERMITTED FROM 1st NOVEMBER TO 2nd MARCH. This means the only viable grayling fishing method during this period is float fishing/trotting with maggots or other baits from the bank.
This is a conservation measure to protect spawning salmon, increasing numbers of which have found in this section of river in recent years. Wading through a newly cut redd, which can be difficult to spot, can have serious consequences for egg mortality.
