Just under a 1.5 miles of double bank upper river Arrow, just upstream of Kington. The river here can be described as ‘small-stream’ and is ideal for those looking for some quiet brown trout fishing with a small brook rod of no more than 7.5 feet. Gently meandering through pastureland, this fishery is known for its good mayfly hatches. The beat has benefited from some coppicing and bank revetment work.
With a mostly gravel and silt riverbed, wading is relatively easy and possible in thigh waders. Access is easy with the car parking less than 50m from the river bank. The fishing rights are retained by the Kington Fishing Club so occasionally there may be other anglers using the water.
There was an outbreak of crayfish plague in the lower Irfon in July 2024. Visiting anglers MUST ensure against cross contamination by approved check/dry/disinfection procedures, and importantly waders, nets and tackle should be sprayed with Virkon Aquatic Broad Spectrum Virucidal Disinfectant before and after fishing.
