The River Ithon is a major upper Wye tributary flowing out of the Radnorshire Forest into the main river at near Newbridge on Wye. This medium-sized river is host to a number of fish species although it is probably grayling and trout fishing that it is best known for.

Much of the Ithon flows leisurely over gravel and combined with open banks, this makes large sections of it some of the easiest to access fishing in the Wye catchment.
The Severn Arms has the fishing rights to 4 miles of the Ithon near the village of Penybont. The fishing is split into 3 beats, with up to two anglers permitted to fish each daily. Each of the beats gives good opportunities for fly anglers fishing nymphs, dry flies or traditional wets. Parking is around 150m from the river.

The Severn Arms also provides an excellent place to stay and eat with guests permitted to access the fishing for free (please note that this is subject to availability and that rods must still be booked by via the Booking Office – 01874 712 074).

Half price evening tickets can be purchased after 1pm on the day of fishing. Fishing is allowed from 5pm.

This beat is in an area where salmon and trout spawn in the Autumn and Winter. We ask all anglers to ensure they do not disturb any spawning fish or step close to any redds. When fishing from November to March it is advisable not to wade over knee depth.
