Approximately 1¼ mile of mostly double bank main river fishing some 7 miles downstream of Builth Wells, near the village of Erwood. Ty Newydd is a beautiful section of upper Wye that has excellent fly fishing for salmon, trout and grayling throughout its length. Despite having some quality pools, the beat is relatively under fished for salmon. The Wye is substantial in width here (approx 70 yards) and is suitable for expert and less experienced fly fishers alike.

If wading, felt or studded soles are an absolute must. Take particular care when wading in deep or fast water and on rocky bottoms. It is recommended that you use a wading staff and wading belt at all times and a life preserver is also recommended. There are boards in places but both sets of planks are in disrepair and should not be used. There is still plenty of very accessible fishing that does not rely on the boards.

The beat has dedicated off road and gated parking with a walk of approx. 200 yards to the downstream end of the beat. There is no public right of way along the beat, it is set away from the main road and offers tranquillity and wildlife watching aplenty, including kingfishers and occasional otters. Erwood has a pub, the Wheelwright Arms which serves food and coffee - there are also public loos in the village.
