The Dolgau Beat is 1 mile of mixed single bank above the Bridge and double bank below the Bridge on the banks of the stunning Upper Wye. It is located approximately 2 miles south of the Town of Rhayader (the Outdoor Capital of Wales) and 10 miles north of the town of Builth Wells. The Beat has several classic salmon pools as well as offering excellent trout and graying opportunities. This part of the Upper Wye is especially renowned for its grayling and is a good bet for a specimen/50cm+ in the late Summer and early Autumn. The best of the salmon fishing tends to be later in the season.
Bank fishing is possible along most of the pools, however wading increases the chance of covering additional water. There is a combination of bedrock and gravel, care must be taken when wading as some of the pools are extremely deep. Felt and studded soles are recommended.
The fishery very is well maintained and has excellent access from the Parking, being 40 yards from the Parking Area. New owners have made several large improvements and are continuing to do so throughout the summer of 2026. The owners reserve the right to fish therefore exclusivity of the Beat cannot be guaranteed. There's a very short (35m, 39 yard) walk from the parking spot to the river.
Professional Fishing Instructor/Guides can only operate on this fishery if booking a rod for themselves in addition to the client(s). Anyone found not adhering to this will be asked to leave the fishery immediately.
