A tough day with very little reward. Managed 5 Eels and 1 Chub. Suspect after the recent low levels the fish are shoaling up, we just couldn’t find them unfortunately. Boat traffic was almost no existent in the afternoon

The river low and clear; lots of slippery algae in the slower sections. A few flies hatching: some sort of pale olive and a sedge. Some rises, none anywhere near my flies. The valley is very beautiful. Although the directions say there is a signpost at the last turn, and a sign saying dead end, neither survives. But it it still the second turning to the left after a long run down the valley.

More or less unfishable with a 7'6" rod. Trees right down to the river; banks too high to scramble in and out of. Might have been fun earlier in the season, with less foliage and more water. i did try midway up the beat as well, where there is a track down by the fishing hut. Unable to make progress upstream for obstacles. Bedrock very slippery. Apart from that, an astonishingly beautiful and secluded valley.

After facing the hill and the 'forest goat' trail a swim was selected and a really enjoyable day, alas devoid of Barbel, was enjoyed.
Circa 30/40 chub caught, we lost count really, all falling to Krill pellet, corn or meat presented exclusively on method feeders that performed brilliantly on a 4" hook link. This might have cost us a few barbel but hey ho, it was thoroughly memorable. All fish were in the 3lb-5lb range.
