A lovely beat with plenty of varied fishing. Spend all day trying to tempt the rising trout with (all sorts of) dries, and exploring with (all sorts of) nymphs. Finally at 6pm landed a beautiful 1.5 pounder with a dry fly in surprisingly shallow water. It made my day! First trout on the Usk, and a beauty. Safely returned.

Took four early on nymphs then odd sporadic rises showed fish had changed depth so changed to spiders and managed another three and in afternoon more regular rises prompted change to dries and took another three after some trial and error on small cdc shuttlecock emergers. Fantastic days fishing.

Several very promising stretches for different techniques, but no takes. I saved what looked like the best bit, where the small river joins, until the afternoon.
I was working up the bubble line when the cattle which were been driven along the far bank were herded across the river exactly where I was fishing, with no warning. I had cattle either side of me as I struggled back to the bank, which was not easy as I was waist deep on large round stones and it was quite steep at that point to get back to the bank.
Call me old-fashioned, but a warning would have been nice, and given me time to get to safety. I am sure that if I had ruined the farmers enjoyment of his hobby he might have had more to say than I did.
If you fish this beat, avoid this section early afternoon...

Disappointing level of fly life for the time of year. Hopefully its a one off due to the cold late spring. Few rising fish but those that were active rose well to the fly - Lunns spent gnat for the splashy rise and a small black klinkhammer for the sippers were most effective

Turned up but the sun was high and on the water, not great for fishing so had a few casts and went home
