Fished from 9am. Hatches occurring then and river abundant with insect life all morning. Water level perfect. Caught one, 1lb trout on a Jingler. Beautiful beat with Sand Martins and Red Kites.

This stretch of the river was far too busy with holiday makers in the river, with paddleboards, inflatable dinghies, swimmers and dogs. It has a public footbridge over it and also is very easy access for people to use when the weather is hot like this.

In short it was completely un-fishable. It would have been dangerous to try to fish it with so many people in the water. And pointless as any fish would have been spooked off far away with all the noise, splashing, objects, people, etc in the river.

I wonder if a refund may be possible from the Wye and Usk Foundation, as a result of this beat being completely un-usable ? As the retailer of the day-ticket, they have the legal responsibility, for selling a good or service (i.e. not the landowner).

Very sadly, the river level, appeared too low to fish. There were no signs of activity (no rises and little insect activity as well).

I walked the length of the beat and did not see any fish (I am normally very adept at spotting fish) despite the water being clear. So it was not a day for fly-fishing unfortunately with the river so low and shallow. I just turned around and left it.

Was expecting more water in the river which was quite low. With the blistering hot weather I knew it would be a hard day, which it was. Only managed to connect with one good fish on the upper part of the beat but can off. Plenty off olives large/small coming off and plenty of rises on the middle flats. Didn't try to approach these fish but a better fisher would have. Nice to get out though and had an enjoyable stay in Monmouth.
