Another superb session on the Kington beat , fished from eleven till just gone three , not as sunny today , a tad cooler , at about thirteen degrees and stacks of insect life about when I turned up , it was pure perfection , and in the first pool head , a splashy rise , ahhhhhhhhhh bliss !!!!!!!

Fished from the bridge , and initially fished a rusty Para Adams , great fun , and missed the first two takes , but soon honed in , and brought the first eight inch fish to hand , spot on , it went like that right up to the weir , when I had a chill out , and by then had brought ten to hand , lovely fish , all off the top on dries , ranging from seven to twelve inches , lovely colouration as always with these Arrow fish . . . . . .

I did venture on the beat above the weir , and in areas it's pretty blocked with wood , and tree debris , but Danica had put in an appearance and takes were very aggressive on the Para Adams , and at the head of a lovely pool , had two clinkers from the same pool , spot on , both about thirteen inches , and put a serious bend in my little six foot two weight rod . . . . Brilliant , and great to see mayflies dancing around , an absolutely fabulous four hours sport , with fourteen brownies caught , and several mistimed strikes , sport couldn't be better , a memorable day , spot on !!!!!!!!!!!

With the river at 9’’ I wasn’t particularly confident, but thought I’d fish the low water marks. No more than a couple of trout in the Mill Stream. Tried the Neck of the Rectory, 2 more trout and then at the bottom of the run saw a flash as a 14lb fresh fish took my size 12 Stoats Tail. Give a good account of itself with 4 or 5 strong runs before coming to the net. First fish of the season. Had a strong pull in the Rock Pool a little later, whilst on the phone to Stephen, so I’m blaming him for not connecting with that one!

Nice to be of the mark in what has been a challenging start to the season

had a good ramble today , plenty of fly on the water, mayfly , olives, midge , stonefly and several rising trout and grayling as I arrived during a steady hatch of mayfly. half a dozen fell for cdc mayfly the rest to nymph as the hatch had ended within half hour and the rises ceased. I lost several other trout to hook pulls also. this beat is quite overgrown now and glad I fished it early , within a couple more weeks will be very dense with foliage . size between7-12 inches with the majority 9 inches.

I found this to be a very challenging beat, it is very overgrown with very difficult access to the river (i had to bushwhack trough shoulder height nettles) and even harder egress. There were lots of fallen trees blocking the river, the only area that is easy to access is the central section where i picked out 2 nice 14" trout to a dry fly. I hooked and lost 2 others and missed strikes on 3 more so could have still been a productive day.

Tough to fish in some spots with the water carrying a bit of colour, but managed to land one beautiful Salmon parr and one bigger brown trout (both safely returned). Lost 5 fish that I hooked up, they were all too fiery for my line haha!

Big thanks to Mick the guide put me on a fish again. Unfortunately after jumping spectacularly five times the fresh fish won the battle. I went home with my tail between my legs.
