Definitely fewer fish present than other stretches we’ve fished this week. Perseverance paid off late in the day. 1 barbel early and 4 really late on.

A difficult day. The water was a lot higher and flowing faster than expected from the image on the Lugg webcam. This was the third time visiting Lyepole and some of the pools and likely fishing spots had disappeared under the increased water flow. The fish caught fell to a variety of heavily weighted nymphs fished at relatively short range on long leaders.

Weather was clear and sunny at times. Unlike the fishing. The river levels were 3 foot up on summer levels, so the usual swims were unfishable. The water was very coloured.
Scratched about to get what would normally be caught in the first hour during summer.
Great venue, will come again when conditions are hopefully less challenging.

Nice day, caught 7 chub trotting hemp and caster on the centre pin, lost a couple of better ones also. Fished over the loosefeed p.m. with quivertip adding a dace whilst missing a few knocks on Spam. Location was about a hundred yards up into the wood just above a crib that wasn't showing when I landed at 8ish . Water dropping nicely for the weekend, opposite bank already filled today (friday). Thanks W and U , I'll be back !

PB and JB had the pleasure of the company of DC and MP having extolled the virtues of this beat to them for a few years now! But it was touch and go – Llanstephan gauge was showing 2ft and turbid, but Rhyader was on 1ft 4inches and looked clear so off we went.
The river looked superb on a wonderful Autumn day and given the recent flush through even the bed was pristine – no blanketweed anywhere. Plenty of flow through though – we suspected the fish might not be in the usual places as they probably still had to reorientate themselves after the recent flood – and very little surface activity to be seen too, although a few large sedges emerging.
However the fish were there and would look to our flies – a total of 18 throughout the day, DC and MP started with New Zealand style but soon switched to dry only. Best grayling of 18” to JB and DC had an 18” OOS WBT.
A very creditable performance given we were not sure we would be able to fish 48 hours before!
