A lovely stretch in a great setting and loads of river if you are prepared to walk a bit from the car park which is at the upper end of the beat. Less active anglers have a number of established swims within a couple of hundred yards of the car park. This visit coincided with a long heatwave and very low conditions plus akgae/blanket weed making fishing hard. Not criticising or moaning as we have no choice but to deal with the river how it is. We decided not to fish until early evening and we had just 2 proper bites between us resulting in 2 barbel. In circumstances, we were happy with this out come and both fish were returned safely after a long rest in the net. We will return to this stretch as there is plenty of room for 4 anglers on this venue.

Over cast and warm on this wonderful beat. My first time here. Worked the lovely glides and flats about 500m up stream of the bridge. I x 10” WBT. Tried a dry both rusty Klinkhammer and pale yellow watery. Must have had 5 or 6 connections but landed nothing. A great day despite failing to land my bites.

Note to Booking Office. I met Peter who works at the post office. Had a coffee in their lovey cafe before I started. He was charming but mentioned that fishermen are using the post office car park at the rear. It’s a small tight car park so they would rather fisherman parked on the road about 10 M down from the post off rice. I said I would pass this info on to you.

The overcast and cooler weather got the fish in a feeding mood. A Life jacket deer hair caddis with a 2.5mm silver bead french nymph duo setup, fished short on a long leader worked a treat. Covering fast broken water the lightening fast hits resulted in good hook ups with this contact method. Most of the fish were of a good average size of 8" - 10" with the largest Trout at 16" and the Grayling at 15", the other was a nice sized Dace. The cork on the new rod I was using for the first time now smells like it should do.

River very low with fishing over thick weed. A warm and bright afternoon gave way to a cloudy evening and the fishing improved accordingly. The last three hours brought all the barbel with another five or six lost. As usual on this beat most of the barbel were small, but the catch included three probably approaching the four pound mark. All on feeder and pellet.

For the past couple of years whenever we visit the Wye it is either 20 feet deep or 20 inches....no doubt others have enjoyed similar challenges recently.
We made the trek up that hill and at the summit were moving about the same pace as the England team in extra time the night before but fortunately the effort was rewarded with some good fishing.
It was fairly steady all day and we are delighted to report the fish still fought hard but all recovered swiftly after given a little time rested in the landing net.
Feeder was the method and did not use too much feed in the low water conditions.
