1' on the gauge. Too much competition from the village - dogs, balls, rocks and stone skimming over the best fly water (Poulston from the pebbly beach) - might it be an idea to put up a sign asking them not to 'disturb' the pool when there are salmon fishermen about ?
The Links Run below fished nicely but was probably also disturbed by the canoists, who were mainly courteous and helpful when asked to keep to the near bank. However most seemed oblivious to other river 'users' including Wildlife, some even playing loud music - what about the Canoe Letting Company, as a condition of their Licence, briefing canoists on how to behave when in the countryside and sharing access with others ?

I only managed to get to the river for a few hours from 3pm but there was a hatch of may fly and the fishing was brilliant. Three fish were feeding in a pool near the start of the beat and I managed to hook all three fish and then loose all three fish. I only fished dry fly to rising trout and after another hour or so I manage to land a very nice 8oz brownie. Great few hours fishing. Beautiful part of the countryside and very nice stretch of river.

Two fish in the morning and the rest once it warmed a bit in the afternoon. Switched methods a lot between dry to high sticking a team on the deeper runs. Most fish caught to Iron Blue Dun or a Para Adams. Trout were between 8”-12” and one Grayling was 14”. The water was coloured up a bit and that definitely helped. Cracking day.

Day two and struggled up here today ,very quiet, mind you it was a late start today and have the feeling I missed any hatching flies. Might have done better with a sunk fly I guess but enjoy the dry so much along here .Bit less tree climbing too! Some impressive clouds of large spinners (LBD?) gathering over the water though as I contemplated the return journey up 'The Hill'!
Alas I didnt make it up to the 'tunnels' at the top section today. There be the home of good fishes....well , usually.
Maybe the fish where just waiting for the mayfly, who knows hey. I think it is maybe better for them up on this beat but the one fish was a cracker and rose it first time I covered it so more than happy.
Kingfishers where very busy and saw some Sand Martens too . Great.
Even better parking up here now with the new gateway and considerate farmer it seems leaving plenty of good room for parking , lots of room, and always stand a while at the gate in to the field admiring the fine view before the descent.

First time on this beat. Lots of variety of water with some lovely dry fly flats, shame it was a cold day which limited the hatches. No fish bigger than 15” but all in great shape, larger fish were feeding on Iron Blues in the tails of the Salmon pools in the evening but were easily spooked.

Water very low and clear as Gin. We all needed to get new knees if we were going to be successful as crouching and kneeling is a young mans game. Fish beat us.
