9 x trout 9-16 inches, dry flies - Deer Hair Emerger, spiders - Waterhen Bloa, Dark Moorgame, Woodcock and Hare's Lug. A cold start, but clear, bright sun so a big temperature swing. Short hatch of March browns around 12.30 and large dark olives were also about. Penpont as beautiful as ever, with lambs in the fields and kites overhead. As the ticket price has gone up, it might not be inappropriate to ask if something can be done about access through the broken gate at the end of the second field, left hand bank, below the bridge? Currently it is wired shut and a tangle of wire is no fun for anglers to get over while wearing expensive chest waders.

lovely to be back on the river at the Rectory beat, river at a perfect height but no fish touched or seen ,but a beautiful day anyway. Many thanks to the owner for the improvements, being able to park at the top of the Rocks makes such a difference, unfortunately did not get down the bottom to see the hut but picture looks great. ( plus the gate no more climbing over the fence )

Bright sunshine, climbing to 11C in the early afternoon but a strong and cold wind coming straight downstream. 1' 10" on the Trostrey gauge and the water was 9.5C
Having seen the sunshine when I awoke, I was improperly dressed and felt the cold almost instantly, having to retreat and warm my hands regularly so I could still actually tie a fly on. I focused on the streamy water at the top end and there was a very short hatch around 1330-1340 which saw a couple of trout feeding on the surface. I took three on a homemade pheasant tail nymph with an oversized grey partridge hackle. Smallest was 8", largest about 15". All looked fit and fought well.
