One browner and 2 rainbows caught on worm. Bit disappointing as the other fisherman next to us caught about 10-12. He was using powerbait salmon eggs though ????. Not much action on the worm in comparison

Great water and lovely fish, but tough going in places. Pity about the rubbish and litter on the banks and in the river. Rising river and heavy rain at intervals made for a tricky day. Three small WBT all taken on black and green bead head nymph and safely released.

When the clouds cleared the sun came out and it felt like the first day of summer, really warm (too warm for chest waders). I fished the top pool which is really the only pool worth fishing for trout on the beat. First there was a grannon hatch, then march browns and then large yellow stonefly. Had 3 the biggest was 2 lbs on Large dark olive dries and emergers.

Been nearly a year since I've fished Beacons , so was nice to head off through the Brecon mountains to this pleasant lake . Was about eleven when I turned up , a nice ripple on the water , and lovely and sunny .

Fished the roadside shore right up to the wooded area , after having words with a chap ledgering and having the brass neck to make a real mess of the bank , digging for worms !!!!! I did ask also if he had a rod licence as well . . . . . . The usual " what's one of those " was the reply !!!! Any way after giving him suitable words in his shell like , he left very promptly !!!!

There were some buzzers shucks on the water by midday ish , so fished a long leader , fine tippet and a team of two buzzers , black and green home tied ones . . . . .

Things were quiet initially , but then takes started coming around oneish , and netted three cracking brownies in about twenty minutes , the last two coming an hour or so later .

The water quality here is superb , with plenty of fry and small fish in the margins . I'm sure evening sport would have been execllent this evening , but was happy with a tally of five , ranging from nine to twelve inches , so called it a day at fourish .

I did meet another chap at the lake , who is in the Ospreys angling club , and he mentioned that dry fly sport can be excellent , although , as with all wild brownies , they aren't a soft touch and matching the hatch is key . . . . . .

Shall head down to Beacons again next month , with the weather improving , its time to hit the banks of the Arrow and Lugg.

WUF POACHING INFO : Due to the fact phone reception isn't feasible in the Brecon Beacons , I wasn't able to pass on the details of the chap poaching , on to the NRW POACHING LINE. However maybe yourselves and C. T. who fished it recently may keep a look out for the vehicle he was driving , WHITE FOCUS ST. REG : CT17 CUJ . if you happen to see it there again !!!!!!!!
