3 bites 3 very good chub. river conditions looked ideal, tried various sizes and flavour of pellets/boilies using both feeder and weight with PVA bag also wrapped paste pellet but no luck to tempt a barbel. One of those days.

A return to the first Wye beat we ever fished - 10 years ago. Still a nice beat, glad we went, but the barbel weren’t playing. No sign of them at all. When we arrived there was an otter fishing at the top end - in broad daylight at 11am. Took very little notice of us. Despite that, the salmon were very active and the chub were feeding sporadically. Again, my skilled pal managed 5 chub - all on meat.
The weather was lovely and there was a spectacular sunset followed by a huge full moon rising .
That’ll be it for us this year, I think.

Day 1 of 2 on this beat, river conditions perfect for trotting for Grayling. Caught in the field then upstream in the woods. Called it a day at 10.30 after snapping my float rod. Excellent excuse to buy a new one.

Started on the stretch after the woods at dawn, previously a productive spot for me. River looked good although the banks were very muddy and slippery, you could see the water had been right up to the top not long before!
After a few hours with no bites the sun came out, so I stopped fishing to dry my feet and have a snooze. Later in the afternoon I found a nice deep steady run at the top end, and after the sun dipped had instant fish. Finished with two barbel, the biggest going 9lb 10oz, and a new PB Chub at 6lb 7oz. All fish to pellet on the feeder.

Incredibly snaggy stretch. Lost a lot of gear due to unseen snags.
Fishing very slow, wasn't helped by the fields having some kind of powder spread on them (chemical smelling) that was everywhere and the property on the other bank burning leaves (i think it was leaves) all day. Had to leave early as the smell was so bad and it was affecting breathing.
Booking Office Note: The powder was probably Lime - farmers often apply this after a crop of potatoes.
