8 x trout 7-9 inches, Goldhead Hare's Ear nymph. All fat little fellows with a bright colour; they seem to have come through the winter well. I set myself the unpleasant task of hoiking a dead deer out of the water at least far enough for scavengers to get at it. There was a dead boar and a badger along the road nearby; corpses seemed to be everywhere in the Forest this morning! On a lighter note, the cycle hire shop at the top of the beat now has a coffee shop / refreshments arrangement which should be open weekends and holidays at least. Or go for a pint after fishing at the Woodman at the top of the village.

Beautiful day on a beat I hadn’t visited before. 1 lovely wbt on deep peeping caddis. Quite a bit of fly life coming off (LDO and some March Brown, I think) and a rise around lunch time but I couldn’t fool any of them. Thanks to WUF. I will return.

Despite the sunny day, I didn't catch anything. No activity at all. Fished from 10 till 2pm, and tried different set up with large variety of nymphs, nut no success at all. Amazing beat, I will come back in spring.

A bright day with a fair few large olives about but no march browns. A few fish rose to the olives on the sheltered top glide, but no surface activity elsewhere. Landed two nice (but fairly lean) trout either side of the pound to an Imperial from this area and one made off with my friend's partridge and orange from the turbulent water at the bottom! Nice to be out.

First outing of trout season and to be honest I think I was a bit optimistic. Conditions and water clarity, levels were good, but water temp was bitter. sporadic hatch of ldos at about 1ish for a hour, but no fish rising or seen. Fished for a couple of hours but to no avail. Another couple of weeks of warmer weather need this far up the river I think.

Nothing seen or caught. The river was quite high with the Ross on Wye gauge at 1.45m, so spinning was the order of the day.
