Dawn start with cold overnight temps down to 2c driving to the venue this morning. Cold, clear skies and bright sunshine. Groundbait and pellet feeders to start and first drop I had the rod tip bending round after 10minutes. A strong fight with no quarter given had a fantastic condition chub taking the scales round to 4lb 15oz. The barbel caught yesterday was returned unweighed but looked around 4lb. Not bites for the rest of the morning when we left at 12.

Clear and sunny conditions all day. Fishing was slow going for most of the day. Caught one 1lb grayling on a pink shrimp in the pool adjacent to the road leading toward the bridge.

Fantastic day all round. Caught fish steadily all day, fishing feeder tactics with luncheon meat and boilies. All the fish were in perfect condition and returned safely, with the chub averaging 2-3lb and the barbel around the 5lb mark.
The river was running at a normal level I believe and had a bit of colour to it. A fresh, chilly start but bright sun nearly all day with cloudy intervals before finally packed up as the sun set. We met the bailiff as we left, who took the time to ask how we got on and had chat, top bloke. Great stretch of the Wye. Can't wait to get booked up again.

River in great condition now. Salmon showing on all the beats. Bright sunshine didn't help yesterday but Tim Kelly hooked a lost a good fish on beat 6. Two weeks left so more fish expected.

Very enjoyable day fishing a new beat (for me) on the Usk. Although the river was low there's a good variety of water available with classical pools, fast riffles and glides. Reasonable amount of upwings on the water but not many fish rising, most likely due to the bright sun. Caught fish from the riffles on either a #16 tungsten GHRE or #16 brown quill nymph. Varying sizes from palm of your hand stuff to a couple of fish in the 1.5lb range. Very good access and easy wading. Already looking forward to visiting again next season!

Weather misty till 11 'then the sun pushed though for the start of a glorious day. It was little Dan's first day fishing a river, a slow start but he was shaping up well by the end of the day. He made his customary offerings to the tree gods with half his fly box but we have all been there. Paul Suter was demonstrating the finer points of tenkara to Anthony Wood who was seriously thinking of chopping in is sage rods after only one hour. Getting back to business, the go to flies for the day were nymphs - holy grail light colour only copper headed hairs ear size 16 elk hair emerger and size 18 klinkhammer in smutty white. Looking forward to the next Sportfish training day.
