Another dry and bright day but with more breeze and no hatches to speak of. Nymphs proving more successful than dry patterns although fish were still taken on dry patterns when very occasional rises spotted.

Beat:The Eyton Beat

Fishing:Trout (River)

The river level was very low. We used a beaded pheasant tail fly. Not much sign of fish at all. The beat isn't as long as it states as the far end at both ends it is inaccessible. This needs attention.
Very easy wading and access off the bank but the cows can be a problem. It may be worth letting anglers know if there will be cow fields around the beat as I am not confident around them. Cows splashing around in the water is hardly an attraction for fish.
Enjoyed the day though....as always!

Beat:Courtfield

Fishing:Coarse

First trip to this beat and I was very impressed by the amount of water and accessibility of the swims. Unfortunately the conditions for this trip were far from ideal with a very cold dawn and then bright sunshine all day. We fished a number of swims in leg meadow with only a minnow to show for our efforts.
As the day drew on we gambled on what I hoped would be some faster water in the last swim of boat pool. We managed 5 Barbel and 5 Chub between us on pellet feeder tactics and lost one larger fish. Barbel between 6-8 Lb Chub up to 3Lb.
As an aside a big thank you to the other angler on the beat who having fished Courtfield before was very happy to offer advice and a few bolies too.
