Part of Darlington Angler waters, High Coniscliffe is an outstanding beat on the river Tees for brown trout, grayling, chub and salmon. Located between High Coniscliffe and Merrybent, the fishing comprises just over 1½ miles of single left bank and has plenty of variety.

It is exceptional fly water for free rising fish, with excellent numbers of brown trout and grayling and is also home to the Grayling Society Area 11. The water in character has a wonderful mixture of deep holding pools and gravelly runs, and minimal trees to disrupt your back cast.

During a spate there is also the opportunity for a salmon, with the main runs between mid-August and October. For the coarse angler, this section is magnificent for Chub. For many years the British record was held on the river Tees and many huge chub are regularly caught.

Wading on the beat is relatively easy although a wading staff is always advisable. All the Darlington Anglers water fishes exceptionally well, with spiders, nymphs and dry fly fishing being the order of the day. For the modern angler, euro nymphing is a choice method. Fishing with a 9ft to 10ft rod, line rating #3/4/5 is the perfect rod. For salmon, the option of Switch rods to 14ft salmon rods will be ideal.

Access is easy via the public footpath
