Approximately 1 mile of single bank fishing located just off the A40 between Crickhowell and Brecon (near Bwlch & Talybont). The beat is one of the most beautiful on the Usk, with peaceful fishing conditions and stunning scenery. It hosts several hatches of fly typical of the Usk, along with a good variety of pools. In addition to some excellent fishing, a variety of bird life can be seen, with kingfishers, sand martins, wagtails and sandpipers. There are few better ways to spend a day than on the Buckland Beat.

The Buckland Beat offers some classic Usk Fishing on a day ticket basis. Access to the beat is straightforward and parking is very close to the river, approximately 100m from the top of the beat. Whilst vehicular access to the parking area is easy, a 4x4 vehicle is recommended in particularly wet weather.

There are three named salmon pools (Ashford Bend, Beech Pool and Bridge Pool). Salmon have also been caught in another pool (Wood Pool) but this has become slightly eroded in recent years. Many of the pools can be fished directly from the bank and wading is relatively easy, provided due care and attention is taken. Stud/felt soles are recommended.

The trout fishing is outstanding, with a good variety of water. Fishing is best during the early part of the season (March – June), when anglers can experience excellent dry fly and wet fly fishing, taking advantage of the prolific fly hatches. As summer progresses, early morning becomes more productive and there are exciting fishing opportunities late into the evening. In September, the day time fishing improves again before the first signs of Autumn bring the season to a close.

Only 1 rod is available on Thursdays & Fridays as a family guest reserves the right to fish on these days.

Please note that by booking this beat you agree to the Fishing Passport admin passing your name and contact details to the landowner and owner of Buckland House.

Anglers should be aware that sheep and cattle sometimes graze the fields alongside the beat and therefore due care and attention needs to be paid.

All those that visit the beat do so entirely at their own risk and the fishery cannot be held responsible for any accident or injury suffered or damage or loss of or to any vehicle, equipment or property.

Half price evening tickets can be purchased after 1 p.m. on the day of fishing. Fishing is allowed from 5 p.m.
