A short distance downstream of Llangynidr, this is a charming 1km long beat with a major salmon pool at the bottom end, set in a beautiful flower rich meadow with the beech woods climbing up the steep far bank. A more idyllic setting is difficult to imagine. The bottom third of the beat is deeper and suited to stalking fish with a dry fly. The Flats can provide exceptional sport on a summers evening. The upper 2 thirds is made up of bumbling runs and short pools that take time to work your way through. You have to keep alert as the rises are often splashy and quickly washed away. It is good water for the nymph.
