I bought this permit for one of our party of three anglers, the other two of us are Merthyr AA members. We arrived about 10.30am, a beautiful warm morning , cloudless sky and very light breeze (NE).Fish were rising in the calm water around the weed beds at the southern end, but within half an hour this activity ceased abruptly when the wind freshened a little. Throughout the morning the wiind gradually increased until by 1pm it was quite strong with the odd white crested wave just beginning to appear. It then gradually lessened throughout the rest of the day, until it was a light breeze by late afternoon early evening. But there was no sign of surface feeding fish again except for the occasional splashy take or jumping well out in the middle of the reservoir. We stopped fishing at approx. 7pm.
We fished a variety of common imitative nymph and buzzer patterns on hook sizes 10-14, both weighted and unweighted on leaders down to 3lb b.s. but had no takes. A most enjoyable day out in beautiful surroundings but no contact with the fish. Birds of note, cuckoo and tree pipit.

The sun shines on the righteous?! In that, a bright sunny day, low water and a cold breeze did not deter a prolonged hatch of olives which brought a fabulous head of fish to the top. Many missed, lost etc but had 14 to 15 inches or so. Happy days.

Started fishing the WUF beat of the Lugg at about eleven , having fished a club water further down for an hour , and picked up two crackers on an olive nymph by half ten . . . . . Had some light refreshments , and was itching to get going again . .. . Sunny , clear and blue blue sky , already by eleven some serious insect activity , including some yellow Sallies on the go !!!!!
I did chop and change dry Adams for olive tungsten nymph just to cover the deep pools , although four out of the six fish from the Litton beat were on the Parachute Adams , all between seven and ten inches , great fun , nice confident splashy rises to the fly too , excellent !!!!
Didn't fish the full beat today , and fished this stretch for three hours , spot on. The Lugg brownies are starting to perk up big time , nivoce to see , and the colours of them are superb as always . . . . .
So that rounded off the day nicely , just a few hour s in this peaceful valley , six gorgeous brownies to the net , and four on the Adams , idyllic , back very soon , when the mayfly is in full force !!!!!!,

Very hot day and no salmon seen. Love the new hut and brew facility - great place to take a break! Small hatch of flies around lunch time and trout were taking them.
I saw 3 large lampreys spawning in the middle of the river just a few feet up stream from the bridge. They were about 3 or 4 feet long and a sight I've never seen before.

Sky clear and a very warm sun, not the best conditions for trout fishing. Started on Klink and Dink and had a 8” wbt to hand within the first 30 minutes, on a size 16 jig hook red neck ptn.
As the day progressed I caught a 6” Grayling on an Adams parachute and same size wbt. There was nothing topping but it was possible to catch on a dry in the faster water. Finished the day with another 8” wbt on a Klinkhammer on the faster water. All I n all well worth the effort and a lovely day out.

Blanked, hooked and lost a decent wbt, same with a smaller grayling. Missed quite a few takes as well. River was quite low and gin clear, day was very hot and bright. Lots of grayling but couldn't tempt any with nymphs or dries, very skittish. Lots of fly activity but very few rises. I need to improve my stealth and casting, but an enjoyable day if somewhat frustrating. Thanks Wuf.

Fine sunny day with 0.17m on the gauge, and running perfectly for dry fly. Trout are now showing in the riffles. All trout were small and taken on a Kite's Imperial, which is ideal for this time of year. Some stock fencing is detached and hanging due to the earlier floods. Access is still good but a tad trickier than was previously possible.
