Fishing was excellent, rainbow trout from 1.5lb to 2lb. All fish were topping the water and put up a good fight. The walk was tiring through to get to the fishing spot at the top of the reservoir.

Well after getting up at sparrows fart , after a long week's work , wondered if perhaps a lie in would have been beneficial , gave the pooch a good walk , heading of for this jewel of a lake . . . .
Arrived at half seven , nice ripple on this special mountain lake , and overcast with a temperature of 13 degrees , conditions looked good !!!!
Tackled up with my five weight nine foot rod , and it seemed really cumbersome to begin with, after a good few weeks of using my two weight six foot rod on the streams locally . Initially I opted for my home tyings of traditional wets , small dark patterns , bibio and clan chief . . .
Fished the easterly side , and had one good fish , but things were slow . . I moved all the way down to the top end of the lake , tricky walking and some devious deep holes to watch , deep with water too . . . . . Some steady splashy rises started to appear about nineish in the top area , and there were some trouty sedges flying around , making the Bugeilyn brownies go crazy !!!
I stuck on a size twelve dry sedge pattern , and almost as soon as it landed . . . bang !!! Lovely fish on quickly admired them back in , another nine followed over two hours , all on the same fly , looked a bit battered by then , but possibly the attraction ??
I worked my way down the westerly bank , working a Coch y Bonddu dry with the small sedge , didn't seem overly fussy , hitting both with confidence and I also missed a good few too , lightening quick , but hitting the dries with a really satisfying splashy take !
All fish were in cracking condition , ranging from six to thirteen inches , may be a tad more . . . A fabulous day , great fun , sixteen beautiful brownies caught and released and some quality big air too , Great for the soul !!!! Was a nice change from the confines of the Arrow , Pinsley and Lugg beats , shall head up to the hills again very soon , a memorable seven hours sport . . . . . . Superb fun !!!!!!!!!

6 fish between us, 3 each after Brett dry netted yesterday.
As a relative newcomer, he learnt a lot in one days fishing after I pulled rank and took the fresh water he took all the fresh water and hooked a fish at least 3lb, it immediately leapt clear of the water, and threw the hook.
I long released two fish in the 2lb class, really interesting water and perhaps less than 10% covered in 2 days, real hidden gem. Hard work wading and in places not child friendly.

I knew it was going to be a good afternoon when a health 9" trout sucked in a para Adams floated down into the tunnel from the first cast at the bottom of the beat. Another at 10" on an emerger before the foot bridge. A good scattering of Mayflies but only one sen taken. Also seemed to be some pink/red bodied ones which I don't think I've noticed before.
Missed a few and picked up a couple of further small ones before finding a steadily rising fish in a long pool. This took a grey wulff and after a patient play proved to be 14"! Fished 3pm to 7 and ended with 6.

Conditions perfect. Overcast with very little wind and the river slightly coloured. Mayfly hatching all day but surprisingly few fish rising. Those that were visible were willing to take a dry fly. A cracking beat with lots of varied water and a beautiful location.

Very well conditioned brown trout about 1 lb , returned alive. Water very low with little fly life, nevertheless very enjoyable day.
