My first time for wild stream fishing, arrived at 10:30am, weather conditions overcast and breezy but warm. ( remnants of hurricane Helene due anytime). Caught a 3” fish on a dry from the weir on my fourth cast but then nothing in the 2hours I was there. Enjoyable if not testing couple of hours, but drove back happy to have the trip under my belt. Looking forward to trying more wild stream venues.

Fished hair rigged halibut pellets and feeder, hard going due to lots of weed, most fish caught from the boat pool in the late afternoon up until dusk.

First time fishing this beat. Only 3 real pegs with the current low water conditions. Caught throughout the day on feeder and pellet. Ended up with 24 barbel between us but mostly small, in fact i’ve never caught barbel this small before!

First visit to this beat. Parking is easy and the walk down to the river is steep but short, and the advice to travel light is sensible. There are lots of shallows with streamer weed but only one safe place to enter the river with waders that I could find which was in the upper field. This stretch has a fast run on the far side that produced most of the chub to around 4lb on trotted corn and meat in the morning. After lunch I moved around trying to find the barbel with ledger and feeder. The first few pegs in the lowest field are accessible but the flow is very slow when the water level is low. I eventually netted a lovely conditioned barbel of around 5lb from the croy peg at the top of the beat as the sun was setting. A quiet and picturesque beat with lots of kingfishers. Saw one cormorant fly over.

River was in better condition, however challenging with a fair bit of weed flowing through. 1 barbel around the 7 mark fell to meat, with a few chub on trotting tactics. Going was tough but enjoyable day.

Lovely stretch with well maintained swims and good access.
