fly fished for a few hours but mostly took advantage of the low water to walk the banks and find the good and the bad wading

Water very low, bright conditions, wind a challenge to accurate casting.

Very attractive beat, however, very low water, bright and windy conditions made fishing difficult

A cool Easterly wind. Saw 3 salmon in the Vanstone in the morning but nil elsewhere. The fly fished better than I expected in the low water with enough flow to fish it around. Good to bump into Mick later in the afternoon and catch up on news. Sadly fishless but enjoyable anyway.

I've fished this beat a number of times before without much success. I keep coming back not only because it is such a stunning place but also because people keep telling me how wonderful the fishing can be. Today I saw a little of that: all six of the fish I caught were absolutely beautiful and the best of them was just over a pound. I arrived early and it was an hour or two before I saw the first rise. This fish refused most of my offerings but finally fell to a bibio so I'm guessing it was feeding on terrestrials falling from the trees. There was a bit of surface action around the middle of the day and I managed to take one fish on a dry mayfly, but pretty much everything else came to the bibio. Lovely day in the spring sunshine.

Called in for a quick look as I hadn't fished the beat for a season or two. Had a big fat brown 18" from tight under a tree that was rising freely, led me a merry dance for a while. Glad I took a look now!

Weather warmer and plenty of fly life. Apart from 3 rises to my klinkhammer which I missed, nothing else seen. A beautiful beat and fortunately for me there's more to fishing than catching fish.

Beautiful still and sunny day, lovely beat. Good hatches. Just very little evidence of fish feeding. The fish I did spot were very spooky - river is crystal clear at the moment. Eventually caught a lovely WBT deep on a nymph.
