16 x grayling 9-11 inches, 1 x out of season trout 12 inches, trotting. River high and clear and air temperature v cold. With a wind it would have been most unpleasant, but the air was still. Black Mountains spectacularly white today. First part of the session wasted with icing rod rings and searching for grayling where they weren't. Eventually found a pod of modest sized grayling and the air temperature crept up a bit.

What a difference 7 months can make! I fished this beat back in June 2017 and had my best ever day of fly fishing, with 50+ fish, and Grayling virtually throwing themselves onto my hook! This time it was a different story... zero fish... not even a sniff. I'm not sure what I was doing wrong, but the fish weren't interested in any of my attempts.
A beautiful, but very cold day, the ground stayed frozen in the shadows all the whole time. I walked all of the beat, trying out various sections that looked 'right', and places I have caught before. The river was high (around 65cm on the Lugg gauge (I know this is the Arrow), with a good strong flow to it. A nice bit of colour, but relatively clear. I tried fishing sections in deep shade, then full sunlight, and then when it became overcast. Tried various nymphs of a Klinkhammer indicator, but it was not to be my day.

River was running very high and very strong. No catches to reports, nor bites on the day. Also the access down to the river from the new parking gate/entrance, was severely obstructed by fallen (very large) trees completely blocking the path down - descending to the river involved climbing over in some cases (as there was no way around up the steep slope) - v. dangerous!
WUF Note: Thank you for the feedback, this has since been dealt with.

River was high for the time with a lot of water but lower stretches were steady - again very cold weather at this time of year. No bites or catches regrettably. Still a beautiful stretch of water.

Did not manage to get there on the day to fish it, unfortunately, so nothing to report as no fishing done - my fault entirely ! I often seem to over-book beats in the eagerness and anticipation of getting around to fishing all of them but I hardly ever do ! Still at least I can console myself that it is all in a good cause and I am happy to support the Wye & Usk Foundation, this way.

I had an invite with Shaun on Craig Llyn, what a lovely day out. We starting fishing by the Hut, he has there and I was greeted with a lovely hot mug of coffee to start with which was really nice on a cold bitter morning. I took a few lovely grayling fishing with pink and hares ears weighted bugs. They were a few olives about but not enough to tempt them to rise. Next we went down the bottom end called the flats we had some large grayling all on the bugs and a heavy peeping caddis on the point. We finish off at the top end with a few more grayling, it was 3.30 and decided to call it a day. What a lovely water .
