A nice few hours on this extensive beat, the water is very low so wading to get to swims essential, but tricky !! Several small (6-8") wbt and salmon parr. Surprisingly the only grayling was ,wait for it, lost but it was a big one.
Thanks to W & U and beat owner.

Booked and arrived mid afternoon and started on the float, much easier in between canoes, had two small barbel and all the chub on sweetcorn, good fun and good banter, after the end of the canoes had a couple of hours on the feeder picking up 10 small barbel biggest wouldn't go 3 lb. A pleasant afternoon in slightly less hot conditions.

The water was at the lowest that I have ever fished here with just 4" on the Llanstephan guage. A blessedly cloudy and cool (by recent standards) day at 20 degrees max. 17 degrees water. Very few rising fish here and there during the course of the day and little fly apart from some midge. Tried nymphs and a size 18 HE emerger and, whilst I had fish on both, by far the majority came up for the emerger and, as usual to this fly at this time of year, these were mainly non-risers. Unsurprisingly, I found grayling in places one can't usually get to and not in places where you usually can! Grayling from 8-13" and trout to 12". An interesting day but lethal underfoot with lots of algae on the slabs at the top end of the beat. Great job strimming the access to the upper half of the beat! Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain!

Two cracking barbel in the afternoon and a couple of chub shortly before dusk. River still low, not much quick water but mostly overcast and a little cooler.

Despite my brilliant fishing skills I managed to blank today. My neighbour however managed to tempt some beautiful barbel & chub & it was a pleasure to see these very strong fish in such good condition despite the low water levels of late. I was photographer for the day. The Canada geese seem to have had a very good breeding season this year; They swam past in procession over a period of half an hour (60 or 70) & later on in the evening gave several low level flypasts. I don't suppose the local farmers will be as pleased to see them?

I had high hopes having read recent reports of big number catches and action on dries, so was a bit frustrated that it felt hard work to interest the fish and I could only tempt them with nymphs - half taken under a klink in shallower stretches and half much deeper, which was where the bigger fish seemed to be. There or tucked away - the best fish came from under a log in fast water. But there we are: all stunning looking fish, two other were parr. Great beat, will be back.
