This is a beautiful beat with a good stock of fish and a variety of water to fish however on a summer weekend it is impossible to fish. There are rock platforms all along the beat which are used by swimmers, drinkers, BBQers and dog walkers throwing sticks into the river for their dogs to fetch. I have had red letter days on this beat in the past and I have also had the same summer weekend experience but thought i would take a punt anyway. This time the BBQers didn't even bother to take home their disposable BBQs and most parties left litter behind, such a shame. At 8pm all but one party left and a few fish started rising, two to my dry fly but i failed to set the hook, after a long day of frustration i decided to call it a night.

Very few fish rises during the morning, just two small grayling on a small black nymph. Late afternoon saw a late hatch of mayfly which produced 3 trout up to 14 oz. All fish taken above the footbridge.

James Harrison caught his first fish, a 1/2lb grayling on an elk hair caddis size 16, just after a lunchtime snooze on the bank!
JH then followed this up with 2 small WBT caught on elk hair caddis as well.
CL tried to catch an elusive salmon. A couple seen jumping over the 48hrs, but they remained elusive....!
Beautiful beat...

12 x trout 6-16 inches, Parachute Adams. A surprising amount of colour in the water, probably due to heavy localised showers yesterday. Not much sign of mayfly today.

Wye on his bones, rain is desperately needed. Hard work to catch some fishes due to the low level. 10 grayling between 14/18 inches with French Nymphing, and 1 nice BT around 1 pound with a dry fly at the dusk. Lots of fly life, but few fishing raising.

Only fished from 10am-1pm as a crisis at home forced us to leave early. The mayfly were starting to hatch as we were leaving!
